Julius Caesar, 49-44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.95 g, 9 h), L. Mussidius Longus, moneyer, Rome, 42 BC. Wreathed head of Julius Caesar to right. Rev. L•MVSSIDIVS•LONGVS Rudder, cornucopiae set upon globe, winged caduceus, and pileus. Babelon (Julia) 58 and (Mussidia) 8. Crawford 494/39b. RBW 1742 var. (legend arranged differently). Sydenham 1096c. A beautiful piece with a lovely portrait. Struck from somewhat worn dies and with a banker's mark of VI on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
